What is Moo-O?

Moo-O is a fun and engaging digital storybook that is designed to motivate children to read fluently and expressively. Moo-O immerses the readers in the story that they are reading, transforming them into the story characters via their webcams and microphones.

How do I use Moo-O?

Moo-O software is free to download. It comes with a free bundled story, My Cat (Grade K-1). If You haven't done so, please download here.

Throughout Moo-O, you have the option to click a help icon, in the upper right corner of all windows. The help icon features a dynamic help video library for non/early readers. To view this short video help file, relevant to the page you are viewing, click "Quick Start Tutorial".

What do I need to run Moo-O?

Moo-O runs on Windows. You just need to have a webcam and a microphone.

How can I choose a story that is suitable for my students or my children?

You can choose a story based on its reading level and the number of words. You can also choose a story based on the number of characters in the story.

How can I buy more stories?

If you are a home user, you can easily buy more stories either from this website or from within the software, using your credit card or Paypal account. If you are a school user, you may either contact your local reseller or contact us for the academic pricing or purchase information.

What is the format of a published Moo-O video?

The published video formats are WMV for Windows and MOV for Mac.

How can I share the published Moo-O video with my family and friends?

You can easily upload the published videos to any popular video portals like YouTube or Teacher’s Tube, or to social networking sites like Facebook. You can only email the videos to your friends or burn the videos into CDs to watch it using your DVD player.

Are there additional materials to the stories?

Stories that are from Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt Storytown Readers come with “Think Critically” activities, which are available inside the Moo-O software once the stories are installed. For School users, you may request a copy of the Reader’s Scripts from your local reseller.

Are there stories in other languages?

Currently, only English (US and UK) stories are available. We are constantly looking for more stories to add to our libraries. You may want to contact us if you need stories for a particular language.

Can I write my own story?

For our school users, they will have access to Moo-O Retold, an online portal which both students and teachers can rewrite an existing Moo-O story in their own way, or to translate an existing story into other languages.
